The best place to get acquainted with the delicious wines of Carmel Valley is at the 3rd Annual Grand Tasting, coming up on October 21 as part of the Harvest Celebration at Carmel Valley Ranch.
“The Harvest Celebration is a good way to showcase what we are doing in beautiful Carmel Valley, the wine, the gastronomy and the food artisans,” says Mercy Wines’ Mike Kohne, spokesman for the Carmel Valley Wine Experience (CVWE).
Twelve valley wineries will be pouring at the event: Bernardus, Big Sur Vineyards, Chesebro, Cima Collina, Holman Ranch, Idle Hour, Joullian, Joyce, Mercy, Parsonage, Windy Oaks and Swing (from the Carmel Valley Ranch Estate).
Carmel Valley chefs including, Tim Wood of The Valley Kitchen, Jerome Viel and Fabrice Roux have signed on to provide small bites perfectly paired with the local wines.
The fun afternoon tasting includes live music, wine making demonstrations and tours of the Carmel Valley Ranch gardens with their resident artisans, who specialize in making salt, growing lavender, raising honey bees and making cheese from the lucky goats who get to live on the resort grounds. The Central Coast of California is blessed with the perfect combination of climate and geography to produce some of the finest wines in the world. Cima Collina features wines from Tondre Grapefields, one of the famous Santa Lucia Highlands Vineyards, Bunter Spring gives you a taste of the Santa Cruz Mountains, while Joullian sticks to classic locally grown Bordeaux varieties. Talbott’s Sleepy Hollow and Diamond T wines are the stuff of legend, and Holman Ranch and Jarman offer wines exclusively from their estate Carmel Valley property, a premiere wedding site.
Chesebro is known for sassy Vermentino, gregarious Grenache (Las Arenas) and sensual Rhone reds, like the magnificent Montagne Sauvage (93 points from Wine Enthusiast).
