May 27, 2014 – Popular and healthy Salinas juice bar Perfectly Pressed is expanding to the Peninsula and opening a second location in Seaside this summer.
Owner Monica Berriz started juicing at home, then selling her fruit and vegetable juices to patients of her chiropractor husband Dr. Luis Ocan. Ten months ago she opened the juice bar and eatery on W. Alisal Street, where she’s developed a loyal following of regular customers.
“People drive over from Santa Cruz, Aptos, Monterey, Carmel and they always say they wished we were closer,” she explained. The new location will be inside the Press Club—an event space Monterey County Weekly newspaper is opening on Fremont Blvd. near Canyon del Rey.
Perfectly Pressed Juice Bar at the Press Club in Seaside will have a soft opening in August and begin operating full time in September. In addition to juices, it will serve sandwiches and salads and operate as a beer and wine bar during evening events, such as talks and classes planned for the new venue. An art gallery is also planned for the space.
“I’m enjoying every minute of this,” Berriz says of her burgeoning business. She prepares nine different types of juice daily using as many organic vegetables and fruits as she can get her hands on. Her most popular combinations are Green Dream, which contains broccoli rabe, and Red EnerGEE—a combination of beets, spinach, kale, asparagus, jicama, apple, orange and ginger.
The juices are all vegetable-based with a little low-glycemic fruit added for sweetness and meant to be taken on an empty stomach for maximum health benefits. “Most of my customers juice at home too, but come by when they don’t have time or run out of vegetables,” she adds. “I’m so pleased that people are getting it and taking on a whole new life by drinking these juices.”
Ever the evangelist, Berriz says juicing helped her drop weight, improve her skin and gives her boundless energy. She is partnering with Taylor Farms to make a video about the benefits of juicing using their bagged kale.
